The Brandeis Center Welcomes New Staff

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Louis D. Brandeis Center For Human Rights Under Law (Brandeis Center) is pleased to welcome three new staff members to the Brandeis Center team: Denise Katz-Prober, Esq., Director of Legal Initiatives; Rachel Frommer, JIGSAW Fellowship program Coordinator; and Lynda Prior, Brandeis Center Executive Administrator.

As anti-Semitism surges on college campuses across the country, the Brandeis Center is expanding its programs and staffing to meet the increasing demand for its legal expertise, advocacy, research and educational initiatives. As illustrated by recent events at the University of Southern California, Jewish students who express their Jewish identity continue to face hostility and discrimination on campus; and yet, the adoption of the IHRA definition by Florida State University and the landmark settlement reached by New York University and the Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights represent groundbreaking victories in the continuing fight to combat Jew-hatred on campuses across the country. The unique skills and expertise that each of our new staff members bring will be vital to the Brandeis Center’s success and growth as the organization continues to serve as a leader in the effort to address the problem of anti-Semitism in higher education.

Kenneth Marcus, Brandeis Center Chairman, commented, “I am delighted to return to the Center at a time when it is expanding to meet the challenges of resurgent global and campus anti-Semitism. LDB is now at its greatest size ever, and our new additions will enable us to focus more effectively on legal advocacy, research, education, and law students.”

Brandeis Center President, Alyza Lewin added, “The need for the legal expertise provided by the Brandeis Center has never been greater. As universities have moved on-line, so has campus anti-Semitism. Denise, Lynda and Rachel, bring years of litigation, firm management and reporting experience to our team which has enriched our organization’s capabilities, enhanced our programming and enabled us to broaden our reach. We have already, in the short time since this new team has been assembled, seen our JIGSAW Fellowship grow and our engagement with undergraduate students and university administrators deepen. I am excited to partner with Ken Marcus and this extraordinarily talented team as we utilize the law to strategically and effectively combat today’s anti-Semitism.”

Denise Katz-Prober, Esq., is the Director of Legal Initiatives at the Brandeis Center. Prior to joining the Brandeis Center, Ms. Katz-Prober spent almost seven years as a trial attorney at the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, where she was a criminal prosecutor and subsequently defended the District of Columbia government in civil lawsuits brought in D.C.’s local trial and federal district courts. Prior to working at the Office of the Attorney General, Ms. Katz-Prober completed a fellowship at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she prosecuted domestic violence offenses while serving as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. In 2011, Ms. Katz-Prober was recognized by the District of Columbia Courts Capitol Pro Bono High Honor Roll for her volunteer work litigating civil protection order cases and advocating for victims of domestic violence. Prior to law school, Ms. Katz-Prober worked for a research organization focused on counter-terrorism and extremist groups. Ms. Katz-Prober graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. double major in Politics and Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA.

Rachel Frommer is the coordinator of the Brandeis Center’s JIGSAW Fellowship program, training law students to advise undergraduates on the legal remedies available to them to combat Jew-hatred on campus. Ms. Frommer was among the 2018 inaugural cohort of JIGSAW fellows and is in her third year at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she is an Articles Editor on the Cardozo Law Review. She has interned at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and is currently a junior clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Prior to law school, Ms. Frommer was a reporter, covering antisemitism and discrimination in education systems.

Lynda Prior is the Brandeis Center’s Executive Administrator. Ms. Prior is a Michigan native and graduated from Davenport University with a B.S. in legal studies. She has worked in law offices for thirty years and her varied work experience includes filing Supreme Court and federal circuit appellate briefs.
