Expanding Law Student Initiative

The Brandeis Center’s law student work continues to expand. Since October, the Brandeis Center has launched their Legal JIGSAW Initiative and opened two new LDB law student chapters. Through both JIGSAW and the LDB law student chapters, LDB attorneys are continuously working to provide law students with opportunities to “enhance their law school experience” and foster “a new generation of leaders who share LDB’s mission.”

LDB has launched the JIGSAW Initiative – “an unprecedented pilot program to train law students to combat and prevent resurgent anti-Semitism. Standing for Justice Initiative Guiding Student Activists Worldwide, the motto of this innovative initiative is “Achieving Justice Piece by Piece.” Under this initiative, a number of select law students will engage in a curriculum, developed and taught by Brandeis Center attorneys and other legal experts, to train the next generation of lawyers to use their legal tools to combat both classic/white supremacist and anti-Israel anti-Semitism. Additionally, in conjunction with Hasbara Fellowships,  JIGSAW Fellows will participate in a trip to Israel where they will visit significant sites and meet Israeli government officials, Palestinian representatives, academics, journalists, and representatives from humanitarian organizations. More details about this exciting program can be found here and a link to the application can be found here.

Additionally, LDB has established new law student chapters at George Mason University Antonin Scalia School of Law in Arlington, Virginia and Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. These chapters are designed to provide law students with the opportunity to “combine their legal training with their interest in Jewish civil issues, including fighting the contemporary resurgence of global and campus anti-Semitism and the anti-Israel Boycotts, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. Additionally, these chapters host speaker events, advocacy-oriented training sessions, lead discussions, and provide students with professional opportunities such as legal clerkships, civil rights legal fellowships and other opportunities. More information about law student chapters can be found here.
