Joel Taubman

Director of Student Programs, Staff Attorney

Before joining the Brandeis Center, Joel served as an Assistant Attorney General in Virginia’s Office of Civil Rights, representing the Commonwealth against landlords, employers, and schools violating Virginia law. Joel’s team won the largest jury verdict in the history of the Virginia Fair Housing Law. He also led Virginia OCR’s K-12 investigations and was appointed to Attorney General Jason Miyares’ Antisemitism Task Force. Joel serves on the board of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists, volunteering as the Jewish voluntary bar’s Director of Student Engagement.

Joel is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School, where he was a Brandeis Center JIGSAW Fellow and Law Clerk. While at GW Law, Joel was also a member of the International Law in Domestic Courts journal, the Alternative Dispute Resolution board, and founded a law student group fighting for Uyghur human rights. Joel studied law after a career zoning, permitting, and constructing cellular towers at Crown Castle. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia.
