Be Careful Lest the Entire UK Soon Becomes a “Sanity-Free Zone”

MP George Galloway, notorious for his love affair (for which some of his services have been well-paid) with both the late Saddam Hussein and the current Iranian regime, recently declared that his district of Bradford should become “an Israel-Free Zone.”

According to Galloway: “”We have declared Bradford an Israeli-free zone. We don’t want any Israeli goods, we don’t want any Israeli services, we don’t want any Israeli academics coming to the university or college, we don’t even want any Israeli tourists to come to Bradford, even if any of them had thought of doing so.”

Bradford, a former mill town, was once “the wool capitol of the world.” Now, Galloway specializes in pulling the wool over its citizens’ eyes.

Dr. Irene Lancaster of Salford’s Broughton Park Jewish Christian Dialogue Group remarked about Galloway: “He is demonizing a whole people. I don’t know if I want to go to Bradford anymore. I’m scared to go there.”

A voice of conscience and courage, Former Archdeacon of Bradford Canon Wilkinson, now vicar for the Anglican parish of St Andrew’s, Fulham Fields and Area Dean of Hammersmith and Fulham in London said: “It’s an absurd thing to say anyway and completely unjustified. I saw these statements made by Mr Galloway and it seemed to me that they did nothing for the reputation of Bradford. It has always been open to all kinds of people. It was a thoroughly disgraceful thing for him to say that Israeli people were no longer welcome in Bradford.”

An organization, change.org, is circulating an on line petition—condemned by an exasperated Galloway as an “absurd” exercise by “busybodies”—that he be prosecuted under section 5(1) of the Public Order Act 1986, which criminalizes threatening, abusive and insulting words or behavior.

So far, 4,100 signatures have been obtained, but is that fast enough to counter the pro-Galloway contagion?

Zombie movies are all the rage these days. I’m reminded of one of the better ones—“28 Days”—about the UK being taken over by people pandemically turned ravenous via neck bites. A more realistic threat is something encephalitic infecting the brain with the disease of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish unreason.

A recent poll—perhaps explaining the supine cowardice and rank opportunism of UK politicians—shows the British public blaming Israel more than Hamas for the current Gaza War by about three to one.
