Jewish students at the University of Illinois filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education alleging an anti-Semitic, hostile environment. The complaint, filed with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, was announced publicly for the first time on October 23, 2020. The complaint, filed on behalf of UIUC’s Jewish students, alleges that UIUC has allowed a hostile environment to proliferate on its campus in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The complaint was filed by Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP together with The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law in March 2020, with consultation from the Jewish United Fund and Hillel International.
