Today, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the U.S. Department of Education announced it would open an investigation into the University of Pennsylvania and Wellesley College for their failure to address pervasive incidents of campus anti-Semitism. The investigation follows two separate Nov. 9 complaints filed by the Brandeis Center seeking immediate and specific action to address increasing discrimination against and harassment of Jews in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Jewish students at Wellesley College (“Wellesley”) are being marginalized and excluded from their dormitory community in the aftermath of an email sent to dorm residents by residential staff and assistants (RAs) (all students) stating “that there should be no space, no consideration, and no support for Zionism within the Wellesley College community.” Read the full letter here.
