Join Us for a Community Briefing and Listening SessionMonday, May 13 | 7:30 PM ET | Zoom The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law is a non-profit, non-partisan civil rights legal advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the civil and human rights of the Jewish people and promoting justice for all The Brandeis Center is a national leader in research, education, and legal action to combat anti-Semitism on college and university campuses, in K-12 schools, the workplace, and beyond. When educational institutions—from K-12 schools to major universities—fail to meet their legal obligations, the Brandeis Center holds them accountable through legal advocacy in administrative agencies and U.S. courts. This includes recent legal action against Harvard University. The Brandeis Center has a focused interest in anti-Semitism within New York City’s public school system. We currently represent a public-school teacher and a campus administrator in an active lawsuit against the NYC Department of Education and Origins High School, alleging failure to address ongoing anti-Semitic harassment. The complaint details alarming acts of hate speech and anti-Semitism targeting both staff and the broader Jewish community at the school. We are seeking to hear directly from students and families about their experiences with anti-Semitic bullying and harassment in NYC public schools. Incidents may include: Bullying or slurs from teachers or students Praise of terrorist violence, including the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians Vandalism, graffiti, or imagery promoting anti-Semitic hate or denying Israel’s legitimacy Offensive and hateful materials posted throughout school premises, even in areas frequented by very young children We invite students, parents, faculty, and community members to partner with us as we pursue justice through the courts and strive to make NYC public schools safer for Jewish students and educators.
