Washington, D.C., August 5, 2021: The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law (LDB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Steven H. Resnicoff to the Center’s Academic Advisory Board. Mr. Resnicoff is a professor of law at DePaul University and director of the university’s Center for Jewish Law & Judaic Studies (JLJS). He has a longstanding relationship with the Brandeis Center as a mentor to the LDB Law Student Chapter at DePaul University’s College of Law and recently hosted LDB President Alyza D. Lewin on a DePaul University webinar. LDB Chairman Kenneth L. Marcus adds, “I have been privileged to know and work with Prof. Resnicoff for many years, and I have found him to be an exceptionally thoughtful, energetic, and talented scholar with a great passion for fighting anti-Semitism. He will be a great asset to our academic research initiatives, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.” Alyza D. Lewin comments: “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Prof. Resnicoff to our Academic Advisory Board. I have greatly enjoyed working with him over the years and am excited to see his relationship with the Brandeis Center deepen in this new role.” Mr. Resnicoff states that he is “thrilled to join the Brandeis Center’s Academic Adsivory Board. I’ve deeply enjoyed my collaborations with Ken, Alyza, and the Brandeis Center to date, and I look forward to joining their team in a more permanent advisory capacity.” LDB’s academic work has long complemented the Center’s legal advocacy initiatives. The Center has developed many academic research papers and publications, including Kenneth L. Marcus’ book on The Definition of Anti-Semitism and Alyza Lewin’s article on Zionism and Jewish identity, which support the Center’s legal activity. About Prof. Steven Resnicoff: Steven H. Resnicoff is a professor at DePaul University College of Law, where he has received numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship, and director of its Center for Jewish Law & Judaic Studies (JLJS). Former chair of the Association of American Law School’s Section on Jewish Law and former chair of the executive board of the Jewish Law Association, Professor Resnicoff earned a BA at Princeton (where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and selected as a Scholar of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs), a JD at Yale, and advanced rabbinic ordination from the late sage, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, of blessed memory. Professor Resnicoff is the author or co-author of five books, including Understanding Jewish Law, originally published by LexisNexis, and more than 50 articles and book chapters. Much of his work focuses on the interrelationships between Jewish and secular legal systems. He has also taught as an adjunct in the doctoral program at the Spertus Institute for Jewish Leadership and Learning in Chicago and at Northwestern University. An internationally known scholar and lecturer, Professor Resnicoff’s secular areas of expertise include bankruptcy, bioethics, commercial paper, contracts, and professional responsibility.
