Welcome, Summer Law Clerks

The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law is pleased to welcome two law clerks for the summer, Nicole Beckman and Rafael Jacobs. Law clerks typically assist with legal research and writing for the Brandeis Center, under the supervision of LDB lawyers, while often engaging with witnesses, complainants, and others.

Brandeis Center Founder and Chairman Kenneth L. Marcus commented, “We are delighted to welcome Nicole and Rafael to the Brandeis Center this summer. Both bring relevant experience and will be valuable additions to our team. Furthermore, their experience at the Brandeis Center will be beneficial as they continue their law school education and embark on their professional careers.”

“Training and equipping law students with the tools they need to effectively combat anti-Semitism is a unique focus of the Brandeis Center,” noted the Center’s President Alyza D. Lewin. “As law clerks, our students develop a deep understanding of anti-discrimination law and policy. They carry this knowledge and awareness with them for the rest of their professional careers. We are thrilled to welcome Nicole and Rafael to our growing law student community and look forward to working with them this summer and as future alumni of our program.”

Law clerk Nicole Beckman is entering her second year at Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science—also from Ohio State. Before joining the Brandeis Center, Nicole created social media content for Jewish on Campus, where she raised awareness of anti-Semitism on college campuses across the country. Nicole is grateful for the opportunity to continue helping Jewish students and to contribute to the Brandeis Center’s impactful work this summer.

Law clerk Rafael Jacobs is a rising second-year law student at New York University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Yeshiva University. During his time as a law student, Rafael served as a research assistant with Professor Helen Hershkoff and helped found and run the NYU Law Students Against Antisemitism student organization. Before enrolling in law school, Rafael was an intern at the Simon Wiesenthal Center where he helped address anti-Semitism in the greater New York City area.

The Brandeis Center extends a warm welcome to our summer 2023 clerks! We encourage interested students to apply to our fall internship, clerkship, and fellowship programs here.
