June saw exciting changes for the Louis D. Brandeis Center, with the naming of Alyza D. Lewin as the Brandeis Center’s newest President. Ms. Lewin’s appointment follows the confirmation of her predecessor and LDB Founder, Kenneth Marcus, to the position of Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights in the Department of Education.

April saw important victories for those working to combat increasing levels of anti-Semitism. In what is being hailed as a “historic action,” South Carolina’s state senate has adopted a definition of anti-Semitism for use by South Carolina public universities.

March saw more victories for those working to combat anti-Semitism. A United States federal judge ruled that the professors who are suing the American Studies Association, represented by the Brandeis Center and a team of lawyers, may file an amended complaint that substantially expands their case.

February saw several advances in the battle against anti-Semitism. The Brandeis Center held its Fifth Annual Law Student Leadership Conference, where young legal scholars were equipped with tools to combat anti-Semitism on their campuses.

The first month of 2018 saw much progress in the struggle against anti-Semitism. The Brandeis Center, a leader of the reform coalition advocating for changes in Title VI of the Higher Education Opportunities Act, joined an impressive group of national organizations in urging the U.S. Senate HELP  committee to reform Middle East Studies . 

The end of 2017 was marked by new milestones in the fight against anti-Semitism.  Bal Harbour, a municipality in Florida, became the first government body in the United States to adopt the U.S. State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism.
