Very recently, the Brandeis Center introduced a new and exciting law school initiative in which law schools across the nations can create law school student chapters to fight campus anti-Semitism. We recently welcomed the University of California, Los Angeles law school chapter. Soon, the President and general counsel of LDB, Kenneth L. Marcus will address the chapter about the topics of “Law, Civil Rights and Campus Anti-Semitism. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 at 12:15 pm.

At this appearance, Marcus will discuss his career as a civil rights lawyer, the national campaign against campus anti-Semitism, and opportunities for law students to get involved. His visit is a follow-up of the launch of the UCLA chapter, which was also followed on November 5th by another LDB student chapter launch at American University’s Washington College of Law.

The LDB law school chapters give law school students the opportunity to put into practice what they learn in the classroom, and participate in the fight against campus anti-Semitism. In addition to hosting Marcus, the UCLA chapter plans to sponsor panels and meetings to discuss the issue of civil rights and campus anti-Semitism.

The newly formed law school chapters show the importance of giving students, the ones who are impacted most by campus anti-Semitism, a voice in the actions their universities take to address the issue of anti-Semitism. Marcus’s visit to UCLA helps emphasize that the Brandeis Center is willing to undertake legal, research and educational avenues to combat campus anti-Semitism.  We encourage any students who are interested in starting a law school chapter to reach out to staff attorney Danit Sibovits at dsibovits@brandeiscenter.com. We also encourage any students who feel that they have faced campus anti-Semitism to speak up and reach out to the lawyers at the Brandeis Center.
